History
My first venture into web design began sometime around 1997, when I was asked at my job if I could do something with my department’s website. I completely redesigned the site and kept it updated until I left for another job in 2000. I revisited web design in 2007 when I started blogging and built a static website for affiliate marketing using WordPress. From 2000 on I continued working in the computer support arena, got married in 2002 and joined with my husband David in a computer consulting and repair business, then grew a family. In 2008 David commissioned me to build e-commerce sites for two of his clients because he didn’t have the time and I had familiarity with MySQL and PHP which I gained from working with self-hosted WordPress. My first two paid websites were built with Zen Cart. I had desired specializing in web design and development for several years but it wasn’t until late 2009 that I made the decision to “just do it” and start my own business. On January 1, 2010 I launched Melodie Laylor Web Design.
